Kirk Bell, Senior Editor

The Senior Editor in charge of Motor Authority, Kirk has oil in his blood. He grew up in the automotive culture, helping his father drag race a pair of Pontiacs, rather unsuccessfully, at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wisconsin. Kirk has been reviewing cars and writing about the automotive industry since 2001, when he joined Consumer Guide Automotive. At Consumer Guide, Kirk wrote and edited several books, including the award-winning Hot Rod & Custom Chronicle and NASCAR Chronicle. Most recently, he spent eight years as a freelance journalist, with such clients as the Chicago Tribune, the New York Daily News, and MSN Autos. In 2014, Kirk was named to the North American Car and Truck/Utility of the year jury. Prior to his time in the automotive industry, Kirk was editor of Scale Auto Enthusiast magazine, the leading magazine about the model car hobby. In his spare time, Kirk imagines the Midwest has better roads on which to drive his 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera S.

2018 Alfa Romeo 4C

The 2018 Alfa Romeo 4C is a carbon-fiber miracle of weight savings, with room for only two and (weekend) luggage. It shares that with Ferrari and Lamborghini, but at a fraction of the cost. We rate the mid-engine 4C a 5.8 overall. We give it high marks for handling, driver feedback, and...Read More»

2018 Chevrolet Corvette

The 2018 Chevrolet Corvette is a classic—yep, even the new one. The lineup includes the Stingray, Grand Sport, and Z06. On our scale, admittedly biased toward the 2018 Corvette's thunderous performance and lavish features, we give it a 7.8 out of 10. What we don't like? Well, gas...Read More»

2018 BMW X2

The 2018 BMW X2 is the devil-may-care baby sibling of the BMW X1. Both BMWs are small, front-whee-drive crossovers, but the X2 puts more emphasis on style and handling while giving up some utility. The crossovers seat five, at least on paper, offer all-wheel drive, and serve as an entry...Read More»
