He knew had high-test unleaded in his blood. Then at age 10 came the very first subscriptions to car magazines. He was addicted. As well as dreaming about cars, their shapes and their sounds and all that makes them special, Jon now spends his time blogging about the best ads that the car industry can offer from around the world.

Green Volkswagen Thinks Blue Is A Better Color
Green Volkswagen Thinks Blue Is A Better Color

I clearly remember when I stepped into a late-'90s VW Passat that I had rented for a trip to a friend's wedding. Not only was I impressed by the exterior of the VW Passat, but the interior was superb as was the driving experience at elevated speeds. However, the best was yet to come. The sun went...Read More»

Opinion: Make Collision Avoidance Systems Mandatory

When I was a teenager back in the '80s, we relied almost exclusively on the car to get us around. It was the car because the bus was slow and infrequent. Furthermore, a car was a sign you were successful enough to not have to resort to public transportation. Or worse - your bike. I also remember...Read More»

2011 Scion tC: Is Scion Curbing Your Enthusiasm?

Toyota's Gen Y arm, Scion, has been a bit of a mystery to me, but not because of the product. The xB, xD and tC in their first generation were really on the mark when it came to hitting their target market. Marketing-wise there were no TV ads: it was heavily Web-oriented, with Scion reps appearing...Read More»

PSA: Lose Your License in Australia and You're...

Advertising and just about most media from Australia have always proven to be different, unique, and dare I say, risqué. But Australians have always told it like it is, they tend not to beat around the bush. Heck, look at their most notorious export after those Paul Hogan movies, Mr. Rupert...Read More»

Video: 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster Just Too Beautiful

It's rare that a super sports car needs any additional promotion or hype. There are the auto shows, the spy shots, the slow reveal over months and media outlets covering the official unveiling. You get all the specs, you get the video and audio, the marketing department declaring it's either the...Read More»

2011 VW Touareg: Home Away From Home

The run-up in fuel prices the world over threatens to make drivers turn to Chevy Volts and Nissan Leafs (or should it be "Leaves"?) just to be able to make the mortgage payments. However, there are still large, boxy, all-wheel-driven, gasoline- and diesel-fired behemoths that tempt drivers to part...Read More»

"BWM": German Precision, Right Down To The Ad Copy

At the German company where I work, the relationship between German colleagues and North American and British colleagues can be strained. Brazil's New Drunk Driving PSA Makes Us Never Want To Valet Park Again

Driving while under the influence of alcohol, or any drug for that matter, is one of the most reprehensible acts a person can commit. Knowing that death and destruction to those behind the wheel and other innocent victims is all but assured still doesn’t prevent this from occurring all over...Read More»

2012 Honda Civic Si: Mix Mad Max, Manga and Insanity

Honda’s new range of 2012 Civics, one of its most important cars globally, has met with a bit of a yawn here in North America, despite some great advertising. All of Honda’s high-level engineering is there, yet the car hasn’t knocked any homeruns in any comparison tests...Read More»

Rebel Attack: Greenpeace Uses The Force Against Volkswagen

I blogged yesterday about VW trying to engage its fans in helping to make the next commercial in its series “Drive Until.” I found this to be a good approach to winning fans and more adherents to the VW brand. It’s a great way to interact with the VW buyers and keep the company...Read More»
