A convertible version of the popular MINI Cooper debuts for 2005 in both base and "S" trim levels for big-sky enjoyment in a diminutive package. The fully automatic convertible top uniquely incorporates both a heated glass rear window and an integrated power sliding sunroof feature. While the base model continues with a 115-horsepower 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that's mated to a choice of a five-speed manual or continuously variable automatic transmission, the Cooper S gets added muscle for 2005 via a more-powerful 168-horsepower, supercharged 1.6-liter engine. This powerplant now comes fitted to a Getrag five-speed manual transmission with revised gear ratios. All models are freshened with new headlights and taillights, a revised three-slat front grille, and updated front and rear bumper fascias. Interior enhancements for 2005 include new interior lighting, added storage space, and new trim options. A number of new color combinations are also available. Anti-lock brakes with cornering control and electronic distribution come standard, along with front-side airbags. Dynamic Stability Control, a navigation system, a Harmon Kardon premium stereo, and run-flat tires are optional.
