TVR Owned Again by Russian

In what can only be called a bizarre business situation, the man who was being blamed for killing off TVR has bought the firm back again.

As previously reported on TheCarConnection , Britain ’s largest independent sports car maker went into administration in December. It left hundreds of staff out of work, owners worrying out parts and service, and supposed future plans on the scrapheap. Official receivers were called in to try to sell TVR as a going concern – and that’s just what they’ve done.

But the man who has bought it is Nikolai Smolenski, the Russian businessman who allowed it to go into administration in the first place. Union leaders have branded the situation absurd and called on the British Government to intervene to prevent it.

The sale includes a stock of unsold vehicles, the Blackpool factory, all the tooling and the IP rights. The administrators said they were confident they’d got the best possible price in the circumstances.

“A number of companies had expressed interest and four had demonstrated they had the funds. But ultimately Mr Smolenski’s came in with the highest offer,” said a spokesman.
