The Lexus IS F is a high-performance version of the IS family of sport sedans (including the IS 250 and IS 350), taking aim at the likes of the BMW M3, Audi S4, and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, in addition to the Cadillac CTS-V. It's the first Lexus to carry the new 'F' performance designation, which signals vehicles with track-ready performance and more exclusivity.

In most respects, the IS F has a lot in common with the other IS models, though some aluminum-look trim, two-tone interior trim, and piano-black finishes make it a little more distinct on the inside. For 2011, an F-Sport package will add much of the IS F appearance to the somewhat more practical (and more affordable) IS sedans—including its sport seats, sport suspension, dark graphite alloy wheels, a sport steering wheel, and additional trim throughout.

What still separates the IS F from the rest is its 5.0-liter V-8, making 416 horsepower and 371 pound-feet of torque, hooked to the rear wheels through an eight-speed direct-shift automatic transmission that includes steering-wheel paddle-shifters. The model can hit 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds and reach 168 mph.

For more information on the rest of the IS package—including interior appointments, safety, and features, plus what other review sources have said—see our full review covering the 2011 Lexus IS 350 and IS 250.
