Toyota is recalling the 2011-2016 Toyota Sienna minivan to fix a problem that can affect its sliding doors. According to the automaker, some 744,000 vehicles registered in the U.S. will have to be repaired because of the issue.
The Sienna's problem appears to be electrical in nature. Toyota explains that if the sliding door is prevented from opening, the fuse for the sliding door motor can trip. If it trips while the door is unlatched, the door may be able to slide open while the Sienna is in motion, creating a safety hazard for passengers.
Toyota hasn't finalized the fix for this problem, but it expects to do so by mid-January 2017. At that time, Toyota will mail recall notices to the owners of affected vehicles, explaining the problem and the appropriate steps necessary to fix it.
