A big Honda/Acura recall, Shelby Cobra auction, VW TDI recall: What’s New @ The Car Connection

July 1, 2016

From The Car Connection:

NHTSA to 300,000 Honda, Acura owners: Don't drive cars until airbags are replaced (breaking)

If you own any of the following list of cars, the NHTSA has an urgent message for you. DO NOT drive them until you get the airbag replaced. According to the Federal safety agency, its most recent tests indicate that the Takata airbags in these specific models have a far greater risk of exploding and injuring or killing the driver or a passenger.

2016 Honda Pilot: Our long-term fuel economy so far

Our long-term 2016 Honda Pilot Touring AWD that joined the TCC test fleet earlier this year finished up its duty in the mid-Atlantic states and has migrated north to the Midwest to report for family duty. EPA fuel economy is published at 19 mpg city, 26 highway, and 22 combined. Based on our calculations, we've struggled to meet some of those numbers.

The world's first Shelby Cobra: CSX 2000

From Motor Authority:

World's first Shelby Cobra headed to auction

There's only one CSX 2000, Carroll Shelby's first-ever Cobra. RM Sotheby's is set to offer the very first Shelby Cobra ever built, and easily one of the most valuable, for the first time to the public when it hits the auction block later this summer in Monterey, California.

Viper special editions sold out, Snakeskin Edition ACR added

Dodge has had a devil of a time selling its Viper supercar. Now it looks like the answer was to offer a bunch of special edition models, then to kill off the car. The company has announced that four of the five special edition models it just announced last week are already sold out--so it's adding one more.

2016 Tesla Model S

From Green Car Reports:

2016 Tesla Model S vs original: how do they compare in value?

I’ve owned my 2013 Tesla Model S for more than three years, and put 66,000 miles on it now. It still runs great, and it makes me happy every time I drive it. I plan to keep it for at least a few more years. But I can’t help occasionally peeking at the Tesla Motors online Model S configurator to check out the prices and features on the newest versions. So I was curious to see how my golden oldie stacked up against the newcomers in terms of price, features, and overall bang per buck.

Will Mercedes start an electric-only sub-brand (like BMW i)?

No carmaker other than BMW has tried to create anything equivalent to the i sub-brand for electric cars. That may soon change, as Mercedes is reportedly planning an electric-only sub-brand of its own.

VW thinks it can fix 85,000 V-6 diesels from Audi, Porsche, and Volkswagen

Owners of VW and Audi 2.0-liter TDI diesel cars finally got some good news this week when the terms of a proposed final settlement between VW and the EPA were announced. But that settlement does not include 85,000 more Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche diesel models that are equipped with 3.0-liter V-6 engines. VW is confident it can find a solution for those vehicles, though.
