Given America's booming auto market, you might think that dealers are having an easy time of it these days. All they need to do is open the doors and wait for sales to come rolling in, right?
Wrong. Between dissipating brand loyalty, new packages and add-ons for shoppers, and the occasional start-up elbowing its way into the industry, selling cars is as competitive as it's ever been. But one dealer in Oklahoma is offering something extra that could blow away the competition. Its not giving away guns or puppies or above-ground pools, but a free tornado shelter with every purchase.
The dealership in question is Roberts Ford Lincoln, located in Pryor, on the outskirts of Tulsa. One year ago, that store was bought by the Pryor Auto Group, and to celebrate its first anniversary with its new family, Roberts Ford Lincoln is giving away a free storm shelter with every new vehicle purchased during the month of May. Cynics will be interested to note that the gift includes delivery and installation.
For folks in other parts of the country, this kind of promotion may seem odd, but not so for those in the Midwest. In fact, two members of the Pryor Auto Group team -- General Manager Seth Knighton and General Sales Manager at Roberts Ford Lincoln, Jake Hudspeth -- have an especially personal relationship with tornadoes. The pair were working in Joplin, Missouri when a deadly tornado ripped through town in 2011. Their dealership became a distribution center for food and supplies after the storm had passed.
We'll wait until the end of the month to see how well the giveaway worked for the dealership, but given the timing, this could be a winner.
