In the lead-up to the Chicago Auto Show, we got a teaser photo two days ago of a Kia "rugged runabout" concept that will be unveiled there in 10 days. The photo--a wintry shot of the front end of a car in an artful snow storm--immediately made us think that Kia might add electric all-wheel drive to its Soul tall wagon.
While sales of the 47-mpg Honda Accord Hybrid mid-size sedan have ticked up as supply grows, the camaker's two other hybrid offerings seem to be in limbo. The Honda Civic Hybrid, a compact four-door sedan, and the Honda CR-Z two-seat sport hatchback are still in the lineup--but their 2014 sales continued to fall.
Part of the appeal of hybrid and electric cars is their quiet operation, but regulators fear this also poses a danger to pedestrians. That's led to several attempts to equip new hybrids and electric cars with noise-making devices, to alert blind or unaware pedestrians to their approach.
