Volkswagen, Audi Top Other Brands In 2014 Total Value Index

October 14, 2014

For new vehicle shoppers, Volkswagen and Audi offer the highest value in the industry.

So says one of the leading annual metrics that assess vehicle value. Those brands, along with Hyundai and Kia, finished at the top, in a newly formulated Total Value Index (TVI) study, from the firm Strategic Vision, that combines input from owners, as well as data from the leading authority on anticipated vehicle values.

Top-ranking models in this year's study from those brands include the Audi A7, Audi A5, Audi Q7, Volkswagen Beetle Convertible, Volkswagen Tiguan, Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, and Kia Soul. Meanwhile, the Honda Odyssey, Jeep Wrangler, Mazda3, Nissan Quest, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Tacoma, and GMC Sierra 1500 were all 'value leaders,' at the top of their individual segment (Strategic Vision breaks the market into 27 of them).

Strategic vision has this year, for the first time, wrapped in residual value forecasts from Automotive Leasing Guide (ALG), which helps to provide a “normalizing factor” add other factors from the economy, or the anticipated strengths of particular vehicle segments. All that sums to a numerical 'Total Value' score.

Among single models, the Audi A7 was the highest-scoring vehicle this year, it earned a Total Value score of 657.

The study is based on responses from more than 46,000 buyers of new, 2014-model-year vehicles, surveyed in an examination of both current and expected value perspectives. So the study includes both what buyers found increased value at the time of purchase (like incentives) and long-term expectations like reliability and resale value, among other aspects.
