Acura ILX Hybrid Dropped for 2015

June 17, 2014

The Acura ILX has only been on the market for about two years now, but in each of its model year changeovers so far, it's seen more than its share of changes. A year after adding more standard equipment and luxury, the big news for the 2015 Acura ILX isn’t what’s being added, but rather what’s being taken away.

In a press release announcing that the 2015 Acura ILX will go on sale tomorrow, Acura confirmed that the hybrid model will no longer be part of the lineup. Even with its impressive fuel economy of 39 mpg city and 38 mpg highway, the ILX Hybrid still fell short of the closely related Honda Civic Hybrid (44 mpg city and 47 mpg highway) while demanding a $4,000 premium.

A spokesperson told The Car Connection that Acura still has 2014 ILX Hybrids in dealer inventory, so customers can still purchase the model.

With the ILX Hybrid out of the way, the 2015 Acura will offer just two powertrain options: the base 150-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission or the peppier 201-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and six-speed manual gearbox shared with the Honda Civic Si.

Aside from the ILX Hybrid being dropped, the only other change for the 2015 Acura ILX is a new exterior paint color, Modern Steel Metallic, replacing Polished Metal Metallic.

Pricing was also announced for the 2015 ILX, which receives a slight price increase of just $150 for all four trim levels. This means the ILX now has an MSRP that ranges from $27,050 for the well-equipped base model, to $29,350 for the sportier ILX 2.4 with the Premium Package. Destination charges are $895.
