The show car will celebrate the model’s 25th anniversary and point to the look of the next-generation 2015 Subaru Legacy, which is expected sometime in calendar year 2014.
The Legacy is a particularly important car for Subaru as it—and especially the Outback, which originated as a Legacy variant—arguably started in the 1990s the resurgence and upward sales trends that have allowed the brand to grow from a minor niche player to a major-league import brand, with growth year after year.
An earlier glimpse of the concept teased that it will have a more coupe-like silhouette; this full look reveals that it has a more expressive design than the current models, with flared wheel arches; a more blunt, chiseled front end; and some of the chiseled, scooped-out details of the Forester 2.0XT. A character line flows from the sides into the rear deck and to the taillights, which follow a new ‘hawk-eye’ headlamp look for the brand (reiterated by the taillights).
