Just three days after we wrote about the importance of taglines in advertising, Honda has announced a new tagline of its own: "Start Something Special". And naturally, the automaker has a series of commercials to help launch the phrase.
According to Honda's Mike Accavitti, "The new Honda tagline is built on the insight that people form a special relationship with their Hondas. They love them. They name them. They talk to them. It's a truly unique bond. 'Start Something Special' illustrates this connection while emphasizing the special qualities that only Honda vehicles provide."
(We have a hunch that owners of other brands also love, name, and talk to their cars, but hey, maybe we've been imagining things.)
Honda's new tagline will appear on three new commercials for the redesigned 2014 Honda Odyssey. All three ads are slated to debut next week.
That in itself wouldn't be terribly interesting. New commercials, new tagline, newly updated minivan: what's the big deal?
The big deal is that Honda recruited actors Neil Patrick Harris and Rainn Wilson to do voiceovers for the commercials. And also, the ads are pretty funny -- especially for minivan clips. We haven't seen anything this notable since Toyota's "Swagger Wagon" ads for the Sienna.
In the Honda commercials, Harris and Wilson give voice to the gooey bits that naturally accumulate on the floors of minivans. And they meet their clever demise thanks to one of the Odyssey's best features, the HondaVAC built-in vacuum.
If you've got a little time to kill this Friday, have a look at all three clips: they're embedded above and below.
