2004 Ford Ranger used car
107,206 miles; $6,992
Bradenton, Florida
The Ford Ranger is known to be reliable, and rather cheap to fix when it does actually break. It's a compact pickup truck that has what it takes to get the dirty deeds done. This particular Ranger has a V-6 engine and automatic transmission. We like the blue paint, and it's an extended cab which will give you a little extra room to put some of your stuff. The dealership offers to show you the full vehicle history which we like, and its been on the market for 16 days. [See more used Ford Rangers]

2002 Volkswagen Passat used car
90.548 miles; $6,988
Eden, North Carolina
This Volkswagen Passat would make a nice family sedan if you're on a budget. It has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and automatic transmission, which should return rather respectable gas mileage. It's also the wagon variant of the Passat which gives you some real hauling capability when it comes time to head to soccer practice or little league. Safety is also key and this Passat has first and second row curtain airbags along with side airbags. [See more used Volkswagen Passats]

2006 Chevrolet HHR used car
103,397 miles; $7,657
Paris, Texas
If you need a fuel-efficient hatchback this Chevrolet HHR might be the ticket. It has a four-cylinder engine and manual transmission, plus plenty of room inside for all your hauling needs. It's only been on the market for six days, so we aren't sure how much negotiating power you'll have. This particular HHR is a LT model, but we aren't sure if it's an LT1 or LT2, so you might want to ask specifically what features it has. [See more used Chevrolet HHRs]

2010 Dodge Avenger used car
71,322 miles; $9,995
Tucson, Arizona
The listing for this Dodge Avenger says it is one-of-a-kind, and while we don't know about all that, we do know it seems like a good deal. It's just under $10,000 and features power locks, doors, and mirrors. The A/C supposedly blows cold, and hey, it has a fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine and automatic transmission. This could make a great daily driver. [See more used Dodge Avengers]

1998 Subaru Impreza used car
72.017 miles; $7,995
Hailey, Idaho
The listing for this Subaru Impreza Wagon is pretty slim, but we are interested because it has all-wheel drive for less than $8,000. Subaru Imprezas are known to typically be reliable, so that's a plus. It has less than 73,000 miles on its four-cylinder engine and automatic transmission. It's only been on the market for six days, so there might not be much negotiating on the price. [See more used Subaru Imprezas]
As always, we highly recommend you have a trusted mechanic perform a pre-purchase inspection on any used vehicle before you write a check. It's also a good idea to ask the dealership for the Carfax report.
