Woman Runs From Fender-Bender, Jumps Off 70-Ft. Bridge To Escape

October 7, 2011
Following scene that sounds like it's straight from a pulp action novel, a Philadelphia woman is lucky to be alive today--and certainly in the running for a Darwin award.

The story starts with a fender bender between the woman's Mercury Mountaineer and Steve Iacona's Acura (model unknown). Iacona says the woman ran her vehicle into his, then fled the scene in her SUV. He followed in his damaged car, dialing 9-1-1 along the way, reports NBC Philadelphia.

After blocking her SUV with his car, he told the woman to get out of the vehicle. Instead, she grabbed her bag and ran to the nearby City Avenue bridge--and promptly jumped off. Seventy feet below, she landed in a rail yard. It is unknown why the woman ran from the scene or jumped from the bridge.

Surprisingly, the woman survived the fall, and she is expected to recover. Her reputation, however, may not fare so well.
