The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has completed crash testing on the 2011 Dodge Durango, and the mid-size SUV has walked away with Top Safety Pick honors. In individual tests, the newly redesigned Durango scored a “good” rating in frontal crash, rear crash, side-impact and roof strength testing, and comes with electronic stability control as a standard feature across the model range.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hasn’t rated the 2011 Dodge Durango according to its revised test standards, but its structurally similar relative, the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, earned four stars overall. We expect that the new Dodge Durango will perform equally well in NHTSA crash testing.
The IIHS Top Safety Pick only applies to 2011 Dodge Durango models built after May of 2011, as they received a design change to the side airbags to improve safety in side-impact crashes. Durango models built before May of this year do not earn the Top Safety Pick award.
