2011 Scion iQ
Scion has the youngest buyer demographics of any brand. And for those younger drivers, the lack of Bluetooth in a new car is increasingly becoming a deal-breaker. So it certainly makes sense that Scion is stepping up to the plate.
According to Scion officials, all 2012 models—including the xB, xD, tC, and all-new iQ (which we drove this week but can't tell you about quite yet)—will come with a Bluetooth hands-free calling interface, Bluetooth streaming audio, and HD Radio.
Earlier this week it was announced that integrated Pandora music streaming will also be offered in Scion models, and top audio systems from Scion are all expected to have song-tagging capability for that, as well as the HD Radio.
Bluetooth audio streaming has been particularly slow to catch on, most notably as Apple hasn't offered it in iPods or the iPhone (it's rumored to be in the works for the iPhone 5). Another obstacle has been that, with other handsets, streaming will quickly run down battery life.
