If you were eyeing the Jeep JK-8 Pickup shown at this year’s Moab Jeep Safari with lust in your heart, we’ve got some good news for you. No, you can’t head on down to your local Jeep dealer and buy one, but if you own a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (the four-door, long wheelbase version of the Wrangler), you can build a Jeep JK-8 of your very own.

Priced at $5,499, the kit includes a steel bed, inner and outer bed sides, extensions for the sport bar, a removable fiberglass hardtop, fiberglass Freedom Panels and a fiberglass rear bulkhead. All panels come e-coated, but still require prep work and painting prior to installation.

The kit can be dealer installed or assembled by the advanced shade-tree mechanic. It’s not quite as easy as it looks in the video below, since Chrysler advises that drilling spot welds, cutting the sport bar and welding components will be required during installation. There's lots of detail work, too, such as installing the kit-supplied rear windows and re-fitting exterior trim pieces. Once completed, however, you’ll have a go-anywhere mini-pickup that retains the Wrangler’s personality and open-air motoring appeal.
