Red light camera in Beaverton, Oregon, from Wikipedia
Are red-light cameras really installed with the intent of encouraging safe driving? Some say yes, while others feel the electronic boxes are merely installed in an attempt to generate revenue.
A recent study performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) found that two-thirds of the 3,000 people surveyed were in favor of red-light cameras. That's likely to shock residents of Los Angeles, whose city Police Commission vetoed red-light cameras as too costly and not a proven safety mechanism.
So today we ask you, are red-light cameras for our safety or to generate revenue? Tweet us your response and make sure to include the hashtag #RedLightCam -- and you'll join the chorus right here via CoverItLive.
