Recall Watch: 2007 Kia Spectra

May 2, 2011
Kia has issued a recall for its 2007 Kia Spectra for faulty fuel tank straps.

The recall only affects those in areas prone to vehicle rusting. The states where recalled vehicles are registered or driven include Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Your, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.

The recall documentation states that the fuel tank retaining straps can rust heavily due to the salts used on the roads. This rusting can cause the tank to separate from the vehicle and hit the ground.

This can, of course, result in a major fuel leak. Even worse, It may result in a vehicle fire.

Beginning in June 2011, dealers will install new, zinc-coated fuel tank straps free of charge. For further information, contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542.
