Recall Watch: 2009 Dodge Sprinter 2500

April 25, 2011
Mercedes-Benz, the manufacturer of Sprinter vans for Dodge, has issued a recall for up to 3,437 2009 Sprinter 2500 vans. This recall affects only 2009 Sprinters equipped with a three-seat bench.

The recall documentation states that the three-seat bench in the second row of the 2009 Sprinter may have been fitted with seatbelts that failed to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 and 209.

This breaks down to two specific possibilities. First, the seatbelts may not lock as required upon impact. Secondly, the assembly loop may not meet minimum force requirements.

Mercedes-Benz and Dodge will inspect all seatbelts in potentially affected Sprinters and replace the substandard belts with ones that meet Federal regulations free of charge.

Owners may contact Mercedes for additional information at 1-843-695-5000.
