The icon is re-reborn, and this time, it looks more the part: the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle is here, fresh from its unveiling ahead of the 2011 New York Auto Show.
VW calls it the sportiest, most efficient Beetle yet, with a pair of engine options pulling the weight for those appellations. The first, a 2.0-liter 200-horsepower turbo four-cylinder mates to a DSG gearbox and new electronic differential for better power and handling. The second, a punchy 140-horsepower TDI diesel, is good for 29/40 mpg city/highway.
