Is Jeep Splitting Hairs When It Comes To Facebook Fans?

February 18, 2011

Jeep announced today that it now has over 1 million Facebook fans. It joins other automakers such as Porsche and Ford in this elite, but growing group.

Jeep is also quick to claim that it is the "first domestic automotive brand with more than 1 million Facebook fans." While this is true, at some level it's splitting hairs.

Both the Chevy Camaro fan page and the Ford Mustang fan page have over 1 million fans. The fact is, neither Chevrolet or Ford as a brand have 1 million Facebook fans on their corporate fan pages.

Ford was quick to tweet out a congratulations to Jeep from the Mustang Twitter account. It also noted in that tweet that it has 1.2 million Facebook fans on the Mustang fan page alone.

What do you think? Is Jeep getting overly technical with its wording? Let us know what you think in the comments.
