We have discussed at length many times the dangers of using your phone while driving. Sadly, some continue to do so with tragic results. The latest tragedy comes out of Chicago.
On December 7 at approximately 7:54 A.M., Araceli Beas allegedly struck pedestrian Raymond Veloz with her vehicle. Beas claimed she was updating her Facebook page from her mobile phone while driving.
It is reported that Veloz was outside of his vehicle after being involved in a prior accident. Veloz and another motorist were exchanging information on the side of the road when Beas' vehicle struck Veloz. Veloz was pronounced dead at 9:13 A.M. at the site of the accident.
Beas was ticketed for striking a pedestrian in the roadway.
Veloz's daughter, Regina Cabrales is suing Beas in civil court. The suit claims Beas was not keeping a proper lookout while driving, and was using an electronic communications device.
