Contrary To Reports, Lincoln Not Planning Luxury Pickup

October 5, 2010

Reports that Lincoln might be planning a luxury pickup based on the current Ford Super Duty dredged up memories of Blackwood and Mark LT, a pair of vehicles best forgotten. But fortunately for Ford/Lincoln fans and pickup purists everywhere, our source inside Ford says no such thing is happening.

The report of the potential new Lincoln luxury pickup was sourced to an unknown source, not necessarily within Ford. Whatever the source of the info, the pickup was rumored to be based on the new Ford Super Duty, yet bearing a thoroughly unique look to help keep the Lincoln brand separate from the Blue Oval.

Our man on the inside, who must also remain anonymous, says no such thing will happen. Was it considered? Possibly, though we have no confirmation it was. If it had come to reality, it would have been perhaps the most ambitious pickup project to date, building a truly luxurious cab onto the heavy-duty platform. It might even have been interesting. cited the Super Chief concept (pictured) as a potential hint at what to expect.

But with the potential for failure in producing a Lincoln-badged pickup so high, and two previous models to base our judgment on, we're glad Lincoln isn't planning a truck. It's not like you can't option an F250 King Ranch up over $60,000 pretty easily anyway.
