2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
Some of us have been fortunate enough to travel to Japan and see the Tokyo Auto Show in person. Others have had to make do with our formidable powers of imagination and hunks of wasabi from Super Asia Buffet II's subpar sushi bar. But now, we too could have a shot at visiting the Far East, thanks to a new contest sponsored by Mitsubishi.
The gist of the contest is pretty simple -- in fact, it's more of a sweepstakes than a real "contest", since you're not required to do anything other than "like" Mitsubishi's Facebook page and enter some basic info, like your name and email address. Then, you'll be entered into a drawing for the grand prize: a six-night trip to Tokyo, including airfare, hotel, spending dough, a tour of Mitsubishi headquarters, and many long looks at the 2011 Outlander Sport.
There are weekly prizes, too -- though you'll need to keep entering to have a shot at those. They range from a $500 gas card to a 16 gig Apple iPad. Not too shabby, as door prizes go. (There's full list of the drawing schedule on Mitsubishi's Facebook page.)
Almost as good as all that loot is the press release that Mitsubishi PR staffers put together to announce the sweepstakes (see below). Apart from referring to Japan as "exotic" and the "Land of the Rising Sun" -- which sounds retro and cliched at best -- the title kicks off with, "Friends with Benefits". We get the Facebook/friend pun they're going for here, but did they really mean to imply what they're implying? Mitsubishi should maybe proof things more carefully, unless they want to get a reputation.
