Today's the big day--the 2011 Ford Explorer has been officially unveiled, and Ford is canvassing the country with live media events, social media Tweets, and just about every other kind of media known to man, to let you know about its new seven-seat crossover.
The Explorer once was the best-selling sport-utility vehicle on the planet, a perennial profit-maker for Ford. Then came a triple whammy of leadership changes, a worldwide recession, and worst of all, the Ford-Firestone recall of 2000 that tarnished the SUV's reputation over tire tread separation. Ten years later, the SUV market's been decimated--and smartly, Ford is repositioning the new Explorer as a crossover with all-road capability, more interior space, and much more fuel-efficient engines.
High Gear Media is all over the 2011 Explorer, right here at TheCarConnection, over on our luxury/performance outpost MotorAuthority, to GreenCarReports and FamilyCarGuide and beyond. To pull together all of our coverage--ongoing throughout the day--we've put together this index so you can follow all the latest news about the Explorer. And we've added a Twitter feed in here as well, so you can keep in touch with Explorer news, 140 characters at a time.
Stay tuned: we'll be driving the Explorer later this year. You can get even more Explorer news, pricing, specifications and more over on our Ford Explorer page.
