Volvo has issued a small recall today concerning its C30, S40N, and V50 models. An improperly tightened gearshift lever stud assembly is the reason, and the recall affects 536 2010 and 2011 models that have 6-speed manual transmissions.
If the assembly comes loose, it may not be possible for the driver to shift gears, which could increase the risk of a crash.
Beginning this month, dealerships will torque the assembly to the correct specs at no cost to the customer.
Yes, only a small number of cars are affected, but that doesn't mean owners of these models should ignore this--not being able to shift gears can cause all sorts of trouble.
