Like the post-trendy hashtag? Get used to it, a lot, because High Gear Media's getting deeper into the social-media world of cars.
Today, we're announcing an important new piece of our little galaxy of sites. You know us from TheCarConnection for reviews, ratings and comparisons; from MotorAuthority, for first drives, spy shots and auto show news; and from our fast-growing sites like GreenCarReports, AllCarsElectric, and FamilyCarGuide.
Now, you'll get the latest social-media news from around the car world, all in one place--and we're using more than 140 characters at a time to tell it to you. So you'll need that URL shortener a lot less.
Why cover car from the ultra-new media, even that beyond Facebook, Twitter and YouTube? We're all aware we're in the grips of a media revolution. The way we write about, show off, and talk about cars is radically different than even five years ago. (Who remembers dummy copy and wax boards?) There's so much automotive content out there already, it's shaping how new cars are marketed, how they're adopted by the cultists and the ordinary shoppers--it's even affecting how they're received. Just ask the folks in charge of the Honda Accord Crosstour, the next Ford Explorer, or for that matter, the whole family of Kia hamster dancers.
Car companies now create viral videos, tweet-ups and Facebook pages as a part of their everyday efforts. Simply put, we want to bring it all together under one definitive home, bringing you all the social-media players to tell you how they're selling, and to show you how to get the best information through social media.
Bookmark our site, and send a note to editor Richard Read at desk (at) highgearmedia [dot] com if you'd like to tell us about your next social-media effort. If you're a civilian, tell us why you were turned on or off by something you tuned in via one of these new media channels.
And as always, stay tuned to our headlines any way you prefer--through one of the largest Twitter followings in automotive, @carconnection or @highgearmedia; through The Car Connection Facebook page; via RSS and email; or through our completely reinvented iPhone application.
There's more on the iPhone/iPad application coming soon. What, you want more of a teaser than that? This isn't the next Ford Explorer, you know. Stay tuned.
