The 2011 Jaguar XJ arrives at dealers in a few weeks--but today High Gear Media will be behind the wheel to drive the new luxury sedan, live from Hollywood.
The basics on the new XJ should be familiar by now--we've been sharing the details since the new four-door ditched the archaic style of old at its 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show debut. It marks the conclusion of a design revolution at Jaguar that began with the current XK coupe and convertible, followed through with the effortlessly beautiful Jaguar XF--and culminates with short- and long-wheelbase versions of the large sedan that will carry Jaguar's banner from the $65,000 range well into the $100,000 stratosphere.
Underpinning the new sedan: a new version of the aluminum riveted and bonded body that made the last-generation XJ a lightweight in the best sense. It's paired with V-8 engines that spin out 385 horsepower in base trim, all the way up to 510 horsepower in paddle-shifted SuperSport versions--which also promise 4.7-second runs to 60 mph.
Features like a Bowers & Wilkins audio system and a dual-view LCD instrument display are aimed at the technophiles. And with a possible XJ plug-in hybrid in the works, the big four-door's green-car credentials have been buffed along with its body.
