The 2011 GMC Sierra HD launches Wednesday in St. Louis, and based on what we know about the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado HD, we are going to take a look at what to expect on the 2011 GMC Sierra HD.
It should be noted that this is speculation, based on what we know about the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado HD and on our own educated guesses. We don't break manufacturer embargoes here at APT, and the author of this post hasn't even seen any embargoed info. Check back Wednesday for a full look at the new truck, after it is revealed at noon Central time at the National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) Show in St. Louis.
Since the Sierra and Silverado are twins, we'd expect the new Sierra HD to offer much of what the Sierra offers, with different styling and an more upscale interior. We'd also expect the Sierra HD to offer some more upscale features, or to offer some features as standard that are optional on the Silverado HD.
It's likely that the two trucks will share powertrains--either a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V-8 or a 6.0-liter gasoline V-8--and transmissions (a six-speed automatic transmission). Like the Silverado, it's likely that the Sierra will ride on an all-new frame and have new front and rear suspensions.
Look also for three different wheel sizes: 17-, 18-, and 20-inches. Features may include a USB port, a wireless cell phone link, mobile wireless Internet, and rear doors that can open 170 degrees. A new exhaust brake system that is available on the Silverado HD should also be available.
Towing capacity should equal that of the Silverado--16,000 lbs on a conventional setup and 20,000 on fifth-wheel setups.
This is all speculation, and the truth will be revealed Wednesday. Check back then for more.
