The Left Field Choice: The 2010 Mazda6

December 14, 2009

There is something about the way Mazda builds its engines that gives them a divinely unique character. Whereas so many competitors have four cylinders that drone and six cylinders that are as exciting as Tupperware, Mazda makes motors that truly give new meaning to "zoom-zoom." They are mechanical and proud of it. These engines have souls.

The Mazda6 is not the family sedan choice of people looking for a driving appliance. Tautly styled to resemble the exemplary RX-8 pseudo-coupe, the Mazda6 has adventurous styling and a stance that cries out, "I'm ready to go!"

The interior, while not as adventurous as the exterior, is extremely well built and all the controls fall easily to hand. The best part? You can order a stick shift with the four cylinder engine and have a whole lot of "zoom zoom" fun while going easy on your wallet. Rear seat room is adequate for two adults but there is a slight headroom penalty for the swoopy exterior styling.

But let's be honest here, if you wanted frumpy and spacious you would have already bought a Camry. If you want driving pleasure and the ability to find your car in a crowded mall parking lot then buy yourself the Mazda6. You really won't regret it.
