In the video below, Google demonstrates its new Google Maps Navigation app, which turns any Android 2.0 phone into a turn-by-turn GPS unit.

Yesterday, we brought you a selection of the top 5 social media car apps available for the iPhone, but today's app is a killer, and it's not available on Apple-based devices. It's still in beta testing, and it's coming to Verizon's Droid phone first, available today. The app is richly featured, the better to take on somewhat fumbling apps available for the Apple iPhone.

With features like voice search, "plain English" text search, traffic view, the ability to search along your route for businesses, POIs and more, plus satellite and street view--features familiar to any Google Maps user--the Google Maps Navigation app is primed to take phone-based turn-by-turn GPS navigation apps to the next level.

But enough chatter--get the full rundown, plus plenty of hands-on demonstrations, in the official Google video below.
