Mini Roadside Assistance app
So you ran over a log with your new Mini and you're stuck at the side of the road with nothing but your iPhone and a bag of Cheetos? Yeah, there's an app for that.
Mini has just announced availability of an app that it's billing as the first of its kind: a roadside assistance app that phones home to report your vehicle's key information and your exact GPS location.
Available for free to Mini owners (iTunes link), the app duplicates functionality commonly seen in higher-end telematics systems, which are generally expensive options even on already well-equipped luxury vehilces. They can also require monthly service fees to maintain.
So getting the same functionality out of a free app isn't half bad, and it's something Mini USA thinks its customers will appreciate.
“MINI owners appreciate technological innovation and will welcome the additional peace of mind that comes from having fast, easy access to the free roadside services provided during their warranty period,” said Jim McDowell, Vice President MINI USA.
All owners need to do is download it to their phones and follow the on-screen setup instructions. Then, to get roadside assistance all you have to do is launch the app and hit 'call'.
