Sometimes a traffic jam is just a traffic jam: a random goofball is gabbing on his cell and rear-ends the guy in front of him, or someone is paying more attention to a hot apple pie than to the woman in her blind spot. On the other hand, there are also a lot of "phantom traffic jams" that occur for no reason, as the familiar-looking video above demonstrates. Well, now the resourceful rocket scientists at MIT are looking into the matter and posing some solutions, including new road design. We'd suggest the elimination of hot apple pies, but then, we're spoilsports.
