One day--maybe--cars will be a thing of the past. By then, spaceports will be commonplace, not just $200 million oddities like the one being built now in New Mexico. Yes, you heard correctly: a spaceport is now under construction in New Mexico. Starting in 2010, Virgin Galactic (and presumably Elon Musk's other hobby, SpaceX) hopes to run one sub-orbital trip every week of the year from the base, with up to six passengers paying $200k a piece for the experience.
