Audi fans, apparently this is your week: yesterday came a teaser shot of the new Audi A5 Sportback, and today we've learned that the Audi R8 Spyder is going to roll out with the company's certifiably bigass 5.2-liter V10. Consider buying a lottery ticket.
News of the Spyder has been circulating for some time--even before we saw spy shots of the car lapping the Nurburgrung last December. Back then, much of the discussion focused on the car's design, like its lack of the A8's trademark blades. Also intriguing was the prototype's targa top, rather than a conventional soft top. (Sources have since indicated that A8 Spyders will feature soft tops when they start rolling off the line--allegedly later in 2009, after its scheduled appearance at the Frankfurt Auto Show.)
Also in December there was talk of Audi jamming its newer V10 into the Spyder, but that chatter has just recently been confirmed. Which means that one Audi's prettiest models will also be one of its most powerful, boasting around 525 horsepower and running a mile in just under four seconds (if performance is in keeping with the R8 coupe). Of course, the base model will likely come with the R8's V8, which is nothing to sneeze at. And of course, we won't be able to afford either.
