Sometimes, the car industry is a strange and magnificent place, full of rainbows and unicorns and sweet, sweet rides. Other times, it's confusing as all get out. This is one of those times.
Last summer, we mentioned that Nissan was allegedly planning a convertible version of its popular Murano SUV. The general response from you guys: "Why?" We didn't hear much from the rumor mill after that, so we were hoping we might be wrong.
Apparently, we're not so lucky. There's a mole at Nissan, and he or she is reporting that the convertible Nissan Murano is still a go. And it'll be here by summer 2010. Protect the children.
According to the mole, the soft-topped Murano will be "targeted at empty-nesters who need room to carry the grandkids, but still want something fun". If we were any of those things, we might agree--or we might opt for a restored VW Thing. But whatever: Nissan hasn't made that many mistakes in its product line in recent years, so we'll give it a pass this time. But we're watching.
