This might be the first hybrid to get excited about other than the 2010 Fisker Karma. Volkswagen, not content with the four choices of engine currently available, has chosen to include a supercharged hybrid diesel. The new engine is a 3.0-liter V-6, butforcing the air into it and adding a hybrid pack will take the normally sedate V-6 to 406 lb-ft of torque and 369 hp. A new eight-speed automatic will help keep the mileage numbers up in the mid 20s.
This new Touareg will be a hot rod of a hybrid, balancing delicately on the fence of environmental friendliness and stump-pulling power. It is listed with a towing capacity of 7500 lbs, which dwarfs most other hybrids as well as many conventional vehicles other than full size pickups.
It's no coincidence that a Porsche Cayenne Hybrid is also in the works, but at how many thousands more?
