We've been busy this summer at TheCarConnection.com--and as we steam ahead into the 2009 model year, we thought it'd be a good time to bring you up to date on what's happening from our editorial team and from our rapidly growing site.
Car Reviews and Blogs
First off, the name Bengt Halvorson is familiar to anyone who's read TheCarConnection.com in the past decade. These days Bengt has taken on the role of our review master--he's in charge of making sure our newly formatted reviews bring you TheCarConnection.com's expert opinion on new vehicles like the Dodge Grand Caravan, while also bringing you a collective survey of opinions from around the Web. It's aggregation made easy--and for those who want to read everything, we also bring you the sources we survey, too.
In the past few weeks, we've revamped our review pages to bring you a new version of those comprehensive reviews, with an easy-to-read layout that includes 360-degree views of each vehicle, lots of high-resolution pictures, and our numeric ratings for vehicles--along with our recommendations for other vehicles in the class and a shopping tip that could help you save money when you head to the showroom.
Next up is TheCarConnection Blog. Over the past month, you've seen a new name on the roster. Colin Mathews joins us as a co-lead blogger, fresh from AutoTrader.com and a stint at Motor Trend's palatial headquarters in Los Angeles. Colin will be bringing you some of the latest news, reporting from auto shows, and making sure that you're kept completely up to date on the latest from Detroit, Tokyo, and Stuttgart. (Don't forget--for those of you who were fans of our Daily Edition newsletter, you can get an e-mail version of our blog via our RSS feeds, and you can follow us on your iPhone, too.)
In the meantime, TheCarConnection.com's Detroit editor Rex Roy is manning the Motor City desk. Whether it's driving the new 2009 Ford F-150 or heading to Las Vegas for the annual SEMA show, Rex will be keeping tabs on the domestic automakers as well as contributing across the board to TheCarConnection.com's efforts to bring you all the best of the car world.
In the coming weeks, we'll be relaunching our features and tips section, with a strong consumer focus and an eye on the industry news that matters to car shoppers. That's where you'll find me reporting most often--whether it's bringing you the first photos of the 2011 Chevrolet Volt or explaining why now might be the perfect time to buy a new SUV.
New Partners: Glam.com, Brash.com, and Oodle
Behind the scenes, I'll be working with our home office to figure out what's next for TheCarConnection.com--and that includes some exciting new content like car videos and relationships with Web-leading sites. Today, TheCarConnection.com goes live on Glam.com's new site for men, Brash.com. Our news, reviews, and features will bring Brash's readers the great auto coverage that TheCarConnection.com is known for.
We're also live with Oodle.com, which powers our new classified-ads section. Now our users will be able to search, well, oodles of classified car listings as well as post their own listings for free. It’s all part of us working to provide comprehensive car buying information and make it as easy to consume as possible. We're also providing our unique car reviews to Oodle to distribute across their network to sites such as MySpace, Wal-Mart, and Military.com.
We're a Network!
Last, and definitely not least, TheCarConnection.com is not alone. Now we're a network of sites under the High Gear Media imprint. In beta form, our new network includes sites devoted to fans of some of the biggest brands and models on the market:
