Saturn Recalls 42,408 Saturn Vues for Possible Fire

September 20, 2008
Did you know that power steering fluid is flammable? GM is hoping that 42,408 Saturn Vue SUV drivers won't discover that firsthand, having issued a recall for Vues built from February to July, according to Reuters.

The oil, also colored red and used for automatic transmissions (ATF), will ignite when touching certain hot components underhood such as the engine's exhaust manifolds. The loosening of a nut securing the power steering line to the power steering pump could cause a leak of the fluid, which could lead to a fire in the engine room.

Currently, GM says it is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the defect. Dealers will begin inspecting and tightening the nut, as needed, beginning September 26. Only V-6 models are affected.--Colin Mathews
