If you’re a journo lucky enough to score an invite to the GM Style event, count your mixed blessings. The celebrity-studded event takes place a week from today in connection with the Detroit Auto Show--and while GM has a constellation of new cars to whip out at the show, everything from the Corvette ZR1 to the Cadillac CTS-V to a new HUMMER HX concept, the Style event is a largely news-free exercise meant to dazzle media with hip talent and a runway-like experience (in Detroit, most runway talk centers around the McNamara Terminal at Metro). Among the talent lined up this year for GM Style? The inimitable Mary J. Blige, lovable local greaseball Kid Rock, somebody named Maroon 5 and DJ Samantha Ronson. General Motors lays its budding reputation for fabulous parties on the line on January 12th, but security is tight and if you’re not on the list, well, you’re not on the list. Party on, exclusive guys and gals -- while the rest of us try to figure out how many hours in advance we need to line up for Cobo roof parking.
