The United Auto Workers has broken its silence about a possible GM-Chrysler deal. So what's the deal?
"I have absolutely no opinion on that at all," UAW chief Ron Gettelfinger said on Detroit's WJR-AM radio station this morning. "It may end up that it's not sold. Who knows?" Reuters reports.
The rumors of a GM takeover of Chrysler started abruptly last week after Chrysler announced it would shut its Delaware assembly plant - and after DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche failed to smack down a suggestion that Chrysler might be spun off or sold, nine years after the "merger of equals" that brought it under German control.
Gettelfinger did admit that the rumors about a Chrysler sale came as a shock to the company's hourly workers.
