NASCAR WINSTON CUP

2/23 Subway 400, North Carolina Speedway, Rockingham, NC (1.017-Mi. Oval; 393
Laps)

What a difference a week makes -- the dominance of Chevrolet at Daytona in
the restrictor plate races didn't carry over to The Rock, as Dale Jarrett's
#88 UPS/Robert Yates Racing Ford Taurus, Kurt Busch's #97
Rubbermaid/Sharpie/Roush Racing Ford, and Matt Kenseth's #17 DeWalt
Tools/Roush Racing Ford made it a 1-2-3 sweep for the Blue Oval team. Jarrett
overtook Busch (who finished 2nd at Daytona, and is now the new Winston Cup
points leader) with five laps to go in a textbook study in tire and fuel
management.

While the talk of the race was the performance of rookie Sebastian Bourdais,
driving in his first Champ Car race ever in the #2 Lilly/Ford-Cosworth/Lola
of Newman-Haas Racing, wiley 13-year veteran Paul Tracy racked up his 20th
win in the series (tying him for 16th in all-time CART wins) with his new
all-Canadian Team Players/Forsythe Racing crew. With Tony Cicale engineering
the Ford-Cosworth powered Reynard, Tracy was cool and collected, leading 71
laps in his best start in years, averaging 91.401 MPH, and taking the
checkers 12.136-seconds ahead of 2nd place finisher Michel Jourdain, Jr. in
the #9 Gigante/Team Rahal Ford-Cosworth Lola. Rounding out the podium was
Newman-Haas teammate Bruno Junqeira.

of a second.
