2022 Volkswagen Tiguan vs. Its Competition

2022 Volkswagen Tiguan
Brian Wong Brian Wong West Coast Editor

The Volkswagen Tiguan measures up as one of the roomiest compact crossovers, but lacks the powertrain options and the standard features of many of its competitors.

The bestselling Toyota RAV4 can be had many ways in many styles, but the 40-mpg hybrid with standard AWD is second only to the RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid and its 42 miles of electric range.

The redesigned Ford Escape also comes with gas, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options but gets overshadowed by the more alluring Ford Bronco Sport.

The Honda CR-V has the spaciousness of the Tiguan but with a 38-mpg hybrid option.

Redesigned for 2021, the Nissan Rogue offers more standard safety and convenience features than the Tiguan, but the redesigned 2022 Tucson shakes the dull styling tree of the segment and has similar powertrain choices as the RAV4 and Escape.
