Honda and Toyota dominate a segment that is embarrassed by good options.
Both the RAV4 and CR-V have their strong suits: the RAV4 has a hybrid, the CR-V is a wonder of interior packaging.
The Volkswagen Tiguan doesn’t have either, but it is just as comfortable with an available third row.
The Mazda CX-5 is relatively new, and a better crossover to drive, although its interior isn’t as spacious.
The Rogue also offers a short third row, and comfortable seats, although its price can rise quickly.
The Santa Fe Sport can be just as compelling as the rest, although we’re not as sold on its styling.
