2015 Volkswagen Jetta vs. Its Competition

2015 Volkswagen Jetta image

Up until now, the Jetta has been falling behind some of its key competitors when it comes to feature availability.

The Chevrolet Cruze also has a high-economy model gas model as well as a diesel, clean and elegant looks, and a refined drivetrain, but like the Jetta it's no looker.

The Dodge Dart plays up more racy looks, tons of features, and big interior room over ultimate refinement.

The Ford Focus has a cramped back seat, but it's hugely entertaining to drive, and can be optioned with more infotainment functionality than even this refreshed Jetta.

The Hyundai Elantra is an award-winning compact with great value and space, with less a reputation for handling than for great fuel economy in all versions--it has the broadest body-style range, with coupe and five-door GT models.

The Kia Forte now has an appealing and capable lineup, but it's suffered a poor crash-test score from the IIHS.

Quick Specs
The 2015 Volkswagen Jetta has a nicer interior, more fuel-efficient engines, and should be safer, while retaining its huge interior and trunk, plus the response and roadholding that make it fun to drive.
The 2015 Ford Focus lineup gets a clean new look for 2015, as well as a high-mileage three-cylinder engine option and revamped cabin comforts. From efficiency-minded models to the high-performance ST, it remains one of the best-driving small cars on the market.
The 2014 Chevy Cruze is comfortable and practical--and now it offers a diesel engine that can return 40 mpg in real-world use.
Remember the Neon? The 2014 Dodge Dart brings back some of its personality, but in a decidedly better package.
The Hyundai Elantra already had the bases covered--we'll see if a new engine and new tuning draws it even closer to best in class.
The 2014 Kia Forte finds better focus with well-rounded performance and grabby good looks, but its safety scores concern us.
