The 2015 Volkswagen CC's rivals include moderately priced cars that we'd call "near-luxury." The Audi A4 is set for a complete redesign in 2017; the current model has some of the same issues as the CC, with rear-seat room offsetting its dynamic driving feel.
The Volvo S60 is also somewhat sportier to drive than the CC, although it doesn't feel all that much more luxurious.
The Acura TLX is another good alternative and is available with a performance-oriented all-wheel-drive system.
The Lincoln MKZ offers flat handling and more interior space than the CC, but interior trim can seem dreadfully plain.
Finally, the Nissan Maxima may be the closest to the CC in spirit; it's also a dressed-up, more fashionable sedan based on a mainstream one (the Altima, for Nissan)--and its newest shape is a dramatic, exciting spin on the familiar mechanicals underneath.
