2015 Toyota Tacoma vs. Its Competition

2015 Toyota Tacoma
Martin Padgett Martin Padgett Editorial Director

The Toyota Tacoma doesn't have too many competitors, but there are a few alternatives with which it competes.

The closest of these is the Nissan Frontier, which we consider a better truck for everyday use and better on-road drivability.

The Honda Ridgeline is the best-driving vehicle in the segment–and it's spacious inside, too–but it's also the least useful as a true truck.

GM has brought its GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Silverado twins back to the market this year, and both offer the added bonus of a diesel engine option.

And, there's always the Ford F-150, if you're willing to step it up a notch.

For 2015, it's redesigned and re-engineered from the ground up.

Quick Specs
6.2
The Toyota Tacoma doesn't make a lot of sense, unless it'll live almost exclusively off-road.
7.6
The 2015 Chevy Colorado asks the question: is not-full-size big enough? For many of us, that's a "yes."
8.4
The 2015 Ford F-150 delivers on the promise of better utility through light weight; fuel economy is still left undecided.
7.8
The 2015 GMC Canyon won't replace a full-size pickup in our garage, but reminds us why mid-sizers are a good alternative for drivers that covet utility over ultimate payload and towing numbers.
7.2
The 2015 Nissan Frontier is one of your best bets if you don't quite need a full-size pickup, but maneuverability and functionality are high on your priority list.
7.2
The 2014 Honda Ridgeline is a niche alternative for those who don't need a pickup bed all the time, but it doesn't satisfy drivers that need a real full-size truck.
