2013 Toyota Sequoia vs. Its Competition

The Sequoia goes up against what's arguably among the best from the Big 3--that's the Chevrolet Tahoe (and nearly identical GMC Yukon), the Ford Expedition, and the Dodge Durango--along with the Nissan Armada.

The GM and Ford trucks are offered in even longer models that may be a better, roomier pick if you intend to carry a large family, or many passengers.

The Ford Expedition has a more luxurious interior than the Sequoia and is perhaps the best-riding of these full-size SUVs; its powertrain, while smooth, isn't as strong as those in rival models, though.

The Nissan Armada is the worst of the bunch for fuel economy, but it has a simplified (and affordable) presentation that's geared toward families who need the towing ability; on the down side, its interior is feeling quite dated now.

Those who want more of an upscale crossover look and feel, but with some level of sturdy truck ability, should also check out the Dodge Durango, which offers one of the most opulent, refined interiors in this class.

Quick Specs
The 2013 Toyota Sequoia promises--and delivers--traditional truck toughness, packing macho style and a big V-8, as well as space for up to eight; but it's mighty thirsty to be a everyday family vehicle.
There's very little that's fresh or contemporary about the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe, but they're tough, roomy, straightforward trucks that perform surprisingly well.
A composed family hauler most of the time, the 2013 Dodge Durango isn't afraid of getting its hands dirty when it needs to.
The 2013 Ford Expedition stands as one of the most accommodating and well-designed of the mega-SUVs, although its styling and features have fallen a bit behind the curve.
Large, capable, body-on-frame SUVs still have a place--especially if you're honed in on the 23-mpg, 2013 GMC Yukon Hybrid Denali.
Rugged good looks and a beefy V-8 powertrain can only get you so far: the 2013 Nissan Armada falls behind the full-size SUV leaders in safety, features, and fuel economy.
